Introduction to Jewelry Casting: Wax Working and Jewelry Finishing

October 1 — October 29, 2024*

Class meetings:
Tuesdays 5:30 - 8:00 pm
*10/1, 10/8, 10/22, 10/29 (note: class will not meet on 10/15 but students are welcome to utilize the studio on this day)

In this weekly evening class students will learn the ancient art of lost wax casting and jewelry making!  Starting with wax carving and wax sculpting we will walk through the process of making a piece of jewelry. Wax models will be created by the students then sent off for casting.  In later sessions we will receive the rough castings and focus on finishing a piece of jewelry.  Techniques will involve initial cleanup and sprue removal, metalwork, metal finishing, pre polish and final polishing. 

Students will design and create a number of different pieces throughout the four sessions. Ancient Bronze and Sterling silver will be available for castings.

This class is open to students 18 years of age and older.
Skill Level: 1-3, all are welcome.
