Ceramics — Creative Construction in Hand Building

$485.00

10-Week Session
September 11 — November 13, 2024
Instructor: David Eichelberger

Class Meeting Times:
9:30am - 12:00pm, Wednesdays
9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13
(Note: class will not be held on 10/2)

This class will focus on using a variety of hand building techniques to create pieces for both utilitarian and sculptural outcomes. We will work together to learn how to use the properties of clay to your advantage, techniques for working with slabs, and how to work in stages. We will investigate the use of hump molds and ring molds to form vessels, working with template-and-slab construction, and using solid-forming and repousse techniques to create animal-inspired sculpture. Emphasis will be on slab-oriented techniques.

If you're new to clay, or an experienced hand builder, this class will have something to offer.

Tuition includes class time/instruction, 25lbs of clay (additional clay available for purchase), and full access to the Ceramics Studio during Open Studio Hours (non-class evenings, weekends).

To increase the productivity of the fall season, we have extended the ceramics term to include 10 weeks of studio usage, which includes 8 instructional classes and an evening gathering at the end of the session to pick up fired work and socialize with other members of the Marlboro Studio School ceramics community. The class fee includes all tools and materials, plus studio time and instruction.

Skill Level: 1-3. All levels welcome. Some clay experience is welcome, but not required.

This class is open to 18+.
