Ceramics: Surface Focus—Color & Technique
Mondays from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
6 sessions, March 3 – April 7, 2025 (work pick-up April 14)
Instructor: Jodie Masterman
This all-levels class is a special one: it’s all about decorating the ceramic surface!
In this class, you’ll have the chance to explore and experiment with all types of decorative methods including wax resist, underglaze and slip, glaze inlay and layering, sgraffito, newsprint transfer, and more.
Expand your decorative vocabulary without risking your precious work—test tiles and sample pieces will be provided, so your entire time will be spent decorating. Students will expand their catalog of techniques while also learning about the aesthetics of decorative art.
Want to take a deeper dive into surface decoration? Tile Studio—Getting Started with Tile, led by Marlboro Studio School Director David Eichelberger, is an excellent follow-up continuation to Surface Focus.
Skill Level: 1-3, all levels welcome
